Building confidence and engaging ALL learners to meet the demands of the GCSE

10.45 – 11.30am
  • Mnemonics / memorization strategies to perfect the 3 tenses and embed complex structures
  • Aiming high in the General Conversation – getting them speaking (for longer!)
  • Examiner feedback and tips to meet the requirements of the speaking exam

Embedding tenses and the awesome power of sentence builders to develop spontaneity and Fluency

11.30 – 12.15pm
  • Mnemonics / memorization strategies to perfect the 3 tenses and embed complex structures
  • Aiming high in the General Conversation – getting them speaking (for longer!)

Making the 90 word and 150 word writing more accessible and achievable for all

2.15 – 3.00pm
  • Planning and practicing the Foundation paper
  • Simplifying the mark scheme so all students know how to write a top-band 90 word writing
  • Tackling the 150-word writing – the need to plan and practice

Making every teaching and learning minute count

3.00 – 3.30pm
  • Exploiting listening and reading activities –interwoven language learning
  • Simple, time saving ways to differentiate
  • The role of vocabulary – decoding, comprehension and fluency

COURSE LEADER

Sarah Gilbert is Subject Leader for German at Ringwood School, and has over 15 years’ experience of teaching German, enjoying particular success in 2019 in AQA GCSE German with 94% of a very mixed cohort attaining Grades 4-9 (91% in 2018). She is an AQA examiner for the writing component and has delivered sessions at Southampton University on CLIL teaching.
