ABOUT THIS COURSE
This course is intended for all teachers of A-level Digital Photography who wish to ensure the high achievement of students in this course. By providing tried and tested teaching resources and techniques, the course aims to help teachers raise attainment in students of all abilities and experience by improving confidence, knowledge, skills and a strong understanding of what is looked for to attain top grades.

Effective Approaches to enhance student performance from the start
- 10 important things to do – work cycle
- Annotating contacts – how to do so, what to say
- Layout and design of work in books – flaps, pockets, pop out pages
- Pros and Cons of providing students with a checklist
- Self reflection; feedback forms
- How to manage difficult students/ get students to do more work

Component 1: Personal Investigation
- How to support your students in this component
- When to start the personal project? Early summer term?
- The Essay: strategies, how to analyse images, the do’s and don’ts
- Ensuring students meet the assessment criteria. What briefs to build into the structure of the project – shutter speed, cyanotypes, book design, how many outcomes etc.
- When to set deadlines to provide marking and feedback

Component 2: The exam project
- How to begin the project – promoting good practice -mood boards, spider diagrams, finding artist references from books
- Insuring research and analysis assessment criteria are met
- Working towards outcomes
- The photograph as object ppt and ideas
- Example outcomes of student work
- The exhibition? How to put one up? Who is it for!?
Neil taught A-Level Photography for 8 years at Godalming College in an Art Department that consistently achieved outstanding results. He has also taught at foundation and degree level and he currently balances commercial and fine art interests with teaching A Level Photography at City and Islington Sixth Form College in London. He exhibits his personal work regularly and last year exhibited at Photo London at Somerset House.
