ABOUT THIS COMBINED SESSION

A combined day with a morning spent on GCSE French and the afternoon on Spanish, or because its your course the other way round! we can also do this with any combination of French, Spanish or German at GCSE

The day is a motivational informative and valuable revision day on GCSE French and Spanish. The day is specially designed by current senior examiners, who will give expert advice, guidance, examples, focusing on the key points to maximise students’ exam achievements. Exemplar student materials will be explored and what examiners are looking for in responses explained.

Session 1: 30 mins: Tackling the picture-based tasks with confidence

  • Explore how to get the most out of the stimulus card
  • Obtain expert guidance on how to avoid nerves and produce excellent responses
  • Improving answers: work though examples to see what differentiates top answers

Session 2: 30 mins:  Paper 2 Speaking – the French Role-plays

  • How to stand out: tackling the role plays
  • Developing confidence: how to respond to questions / be spontaneous;
  • Listen to / watch examples that highlight the difference between levels
  • STUDENT ACTIVITY: Plan and produce a role-play: what would it score?

  • Think like an examiner: how do the questions catch students out?
  • Skills workshop: Learning and using vocabulary

 

Session 4: 30 mins: Developing your French writing skills

  • The shorter writing tasks: what the examiners want
  • The extended writing tasks: what the examiners want
  • Using wide-ranging vocabulary to make your writing more interesting
  • STUDENT ACTIVITY Which is the best? Student marking exercise
  • Complexity is the key – how to make writing better

 

Session 5: 10 mins: Grammar and vocabulary

  • Examine French grammar pitfalls – what is wrong and why?
  • Active vocabulary learning : techniques that work
