ABOUT THIS COURSE
A brand-new course exploring high impact strategies that raise attainment and support students to access top marks in examinations. Deb will share ideas and accompanying materials that you can take-away and use immediately in the classroom, using her experiences as a senior examiner and trainer.You will leave equipped with knowledge of effective teaching, learning and assessment practice as well as feedback from the most recent exams. In addition, the course includes access to a range of resources and practical strategies that will enable you to meet the needs of your most able students and ultimately increase A and A* grade attainment.

- Cognitive load theory
- Meaningful feedback – work smarter, not harder
10.30am: Paper 1 Research Methods
- Teaching research methods in context for depth of understanding – preparation for ongoing research at university and into their career
- Extended writing in research methods – design a study
- Teaching through mini practicals
- Making data analysis make sense!
11.15am: Break
11.30: Paper 2- Core Studies
- The challenge of teaching 20 core studies - How to deal with the large content in Psychology A level – selectivity and re-cycling top tips for overlap key-studies that high end students can re-signpost across topics
- Section B – Areas, perspectives and debates – how to teach extended writing effectively to maximise marks, incorporating issues and debates into your teaching. Tackling comparison questions. Using metacognition strategies
- Section C – Practical application – Tackling the tricking suggestions questions and the follow up evaluation question

- Scaffolding as a key element of high-quality instruction, even the most able need to have clear structures.
- Providing higher order skills practice and model responses for students. Showing A/A* students what top mark exam responses look like, how to develop their own answers.

COURSE LEADER
Deb Gajic has over 30 years’ experience teaching Psychology, including serving as Head of Psychology at an outstanding Midlands school where A Level Psychology was one of the most popular subjects and students consistently exceeded their target grades. She now works as an independent educational consultant, senior examiner and CPD trainer for two major UK exam boards, while also tutoring students privately. Deb is a published author of resources for psychology teachers and students and has extensive experience supporting a wide range of learners, including those with SEND and anxiety. She is a Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (AFBPsS).
