ABOUT THIS COURSE

Effective leadership starts with a clear vision, while strategy focuses on the actions that turn that vision into reality. This brand-new course will consider what it takes to achieve excellence in a Geography department and the pivotal role of the Head of Geography in maintaining this excellence.  Throughout the course, we’ll dive into curriculum development, teaching and learning practices, target setting, and methods for monitoring and evaluating both progress and attainment. Outstanding Leadership of a Geography Department

COURSE LEADER

Rachel Kay is a current Head of Geography and lead practitioner with 24 years teaching experience.  She specialises in curriculum development, and as an SLE, supports schools in West Yorkshire. She is co-chair of The GA’s ‘Secondary Phase Committee’ and delivers webinars and workshops in a variety of settings. She has written articles for Teaching Geography and has been interviewed for GeogPod on curriculum planning and preparing for an Ofsted inspection. She also supports teacher training and delivers geographical knowledge subject days to SCITT and PGCE students.
