Join A-Level History expert examiner Keith Milne for an opportunity to really develop your exam technique and skills that will ensure progression to the higher levels of the mark scheme. There will be a particular focus on extending performance on the sources question.   We will consider exactly what the demands of assessing value are and how you can ensure that you are analysing the full range of provenance set in the attribution. Crucially, we will detail what examiners look for in assessing the depth of evaluation. We will consider tips on avoiding the more general commentary about tone and provenance and look at what the higher-level responses look like.   A secondary focus will be the qualities of an outstanding essay and especially what an essay in Depth papers really should cover.

4.05 – 4.20pm: Learning skills. How to prioritise the right things in revision
  • How to combine content revision with skills expected in the exam
  • Linking knowledge to argument: revising for a purpose
  • Knowing when you have learned enough

4.20 – 4.55pm: The key things to remember when writing an outstanding depth essay
  • Conveying an understanding in depth – how to use knowledge in support of argument
  • Success in the essay: the higher levels of AO1 and how to access them
  • Achieving a sustained and substantiated judgement
  • Student Activity: analyse essay question responses, considering introductions and balance.

 4.55 – 5.25pm: Revision tips to help produce superb answers to Sources Questions
  • What an examiner looks for to prove that you understand the source as demanded at the higher levels
  • How to evaluate the value of a source using terminology looked for by examiners
  • Student Activity: the strength and weakness of different styles of response.

5.25 – 5.30pm: Final Pointers
