ABOUT THIS CONFERENCE

“It’s Not What You Do, It’s the Way That You Do It”

This Study Skills Day, new for Autumn 2022 is designed for A Level students but could be adapted also for GCSE students. The day can be tailored to suit as a half day or as a full day, with full focus on effective study skills, revision and exam techniques practice that are guaranteed to raise attainment exams.

The day is designed to be interactive, informative and valuable, with positive dynamic energy throughout from our excellent course leader for this Study Skills day.

Student will take away Revision and Exam Hacks to implement straight-away.

  • Students will gain methods, approaches and strategies for study and revision skills to ensure success.
  • Take away methods to inspire students to aim for top grades.
  • Take away pragmatic approaches to study.
  • Get motivated with top A Level strategies.
  • Explore ways to attack the exam questions
  • Run up to the exam: good habits.
  • On the day- remembering to not panic!

PROGRAMME

Session 1: High Performance Learning

10.30 – 11.30am
  • A formula for high performance learning – what do successful learners do differently?
  • High Impact Strategies, including Mastery Learning technique and how to combat students’ negative feedback bias
  • Meta-cognition and specifics on how to break your own procrastination patterns
  • Understanding Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation, Cognitive load and Dual Coding

Morning Break

11.30 – 11.50am

Session 2: Exam Techniques and Tactics

11.50 – 12.50pm
  • Nudge techniques: Study/Exam Hacks
  • From Perfectionism to Healthy Striving – From Coping to Flourishing
  • How to play to your strengths – Your ‘I Can’ is more important than your IQ
  • A Tool Kit to ‘MURDER’ difficult exam questions, and avoid Brain Freeze

Lunch

Session 3: Fine-Tuning for Optimum Functioning in the Exams

  • Specific Reframing, Visualisation and Self-talk methods

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Harriet Ennis is a Psychology teacher, a Head of Department and an award-winning champion for public engagement in psychology. She designs and runs student and teacher workshops, masterclasses and residential courses Her public engagement award was given by the British Psychological Society, for which she is also a Chartered Psychologist and an Associate Fellow. Her study skills courses are recognised for their practicality, innovation and excellence.
